I showed our family favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe on my stories and had such a good response and interest I decided I would officially document them on my blog. This recipe has been in my family for years! Depending on my mood, I either add in banana or coconut as the secret ingredient! Trust me–it makes the cookies! I personally love the coconut but Amy loves the banana. Can't go wrong either way!
Ingredients:
2 cups shortening
1 ½ cups brown sugar
1 ½ cups white sugar
4 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda, in 2 T warm water
1 cup flaked or shredded coconut (or replace with a banana)
1 package chocolate chips (I use Guittard)
4 cups oatmeal
3 cups flour

Mix well and drop with this scooper onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes or just until they start to brown.
