Who agrees that when it’s cold outside that there is nothing much better than staying in and baking? I decided to have a Valentine’s sugar cookie day where we just stayed in and baked fresh, warm cookies, and made them look pretty of course! This sugar cookie recipe has been in my family for years and it is hard to convince me that there are cookies out there that are better! This is such a fun winter day activity and every year when it gets close to Valentine’s Day, heart shaped cookies in all shades of pink are a must! Recipe and tips below!!

Sugar Cookie Recipe:
Ingredients List for Dough::
2 cups *softened butter (I use unsalted but you can use either)
6 eggs
2 cups sugar *(heaping)
2 teaspoon vanilla *(I add a little extra)
2 teaspoon almond extract *(I add a little extra)
6 teaspoon baking powder
7 cups flour *(I don’t like mine too dry, I usually end up only using 5-6 cups of flour, your dough should still be a little sticky)
Instructions::
1. Mix wet ingredients with sugar then slowly add baking powder and slowly add flour.
2. Mix well (I love to use this Bosch mixer)
3. Refrigerate dough for 30 minutes
4. Bake for *6-7 minutes at 375 on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet. (In my oven I only cook them for 5-6 minutes. *I like them to be extra soft and they will continue to cook a bit after you pull them out, DON’T let them get golden brown).
Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe::
1 pound cream cheese *(2 sticks)
3/4 pound unsalted butter at room temperature *(3 sticks of 1/2 cubes softened butter)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 1/2 pounds powdered sugar
*Mix together in mixer.

Hi Rachel,
What do you use to color the cream cheese frosting? Those colors are so vibrant and I love the ombre.
Annee
The colors are so vibrant because she uses gel! Gel Color is better color and won’t water down your icing. :)
So beautiful! What food coLoring did you use to get the gorgeous colors?
Hi! How did u get the Di different colors for the frosting? they look so yummy thanks for sharIng!
You simply divide the icing in little bowls and add gel food coloring in the different bowls.

XO,

I just loved making these with my little girl. The dough was silky and easy to cut through and reroll. I halved the recipe and ended up with the perfect amount to pass around to neighbors today. Anyone wondering about quantity from this recipe, I halved both recipes and got a more standard size batch of cookies out of it (~30 medium cookies with leftover frosting) LISTEN to what she says about the extra VANILla and Almond, and less flour, it yields a soft chewy delight you can just smell before you dig in. The cream cheese icing is a perfect choice as it makes it a better cookie than just plain sweet on sweet on sweet and hardens just on the outside so you get a creamy bite even the next day.
These we will be coming back to for Christmastime.
made these cookies and they tURNED OUT SO SO CUTE! IT MADE ABOUT 5 DOZEN MEDIUM AND LARGE COOKIES.
mY ONLY QUESTIONS IS… DO YOU ADD SALT TO YOUR RECIPE? I FEEL LIKE MY COOKIES WEREN’T VERY FLAVORFUL OR SWEET BUT i MAY HAVE JUST MESSED SOMETHING ELSE UP!
I love love All your posts and stories . And all the amazing recipes
