Packing Tips with Tumi…

One of my favorite things to do is travel. I find it so inspiring to explore new places and create lasting memories with family and friends. However, for most us, it’s the packing (and unpacking) process that can be a daunting task. Last year, due to work, I traveled probably more than I ever have and along the way, I’ve discovered some tricks that have helped ease the stress I feel when packing for a vacation.

Drew and I left for Dallas at the end of last week for a conference and then from there, we headed to Cabo. While I was packing, I compiled a list of tips to hopefully help you while you’re packing for all your upcoming summer vacations too!

A chic yet functional suitcase is one of the most important parts to packing, after all, it’s your biggest vacation accessory and is your life on wheels while traveling! I love this iconic, geometric print, Tumi suitcase in collaboration with designer, Jonathan Adler. It’s totally me (wonder why ;) the craftsmanship and functionality paired with the bold print and eye-popping colors are all features that make this suitcase perfect for me while I travel. Oh, and it’s really easy to spot your luggage at baggage claim! You can see the complete Jonathan Adler collection here.

  1. Thank you for this post!!! I am the worst over-packer and am always going back and forth between Atlanta and the beach. While over-packing isn’t the worst part, I can’t stand when I arrive and my clothing and shoes are wrinkled or misshapen from improper packing. I do highly recommend packing shoes in separate dustbag. Especially Rockstuds. I always pack mine separatedly so that they don’t scratch each other or any of my other accessories. Will definitely be bookmarking this post! Love Tumi luggage… It’s the best. Fab post!

  2. Great tips for packing… I love how this luggage comes with a matching set of garment bags and a jewelry roll! I love to have all things match (I’m a tad OCD lol) and this set is a great find! Another tip for shoes, if you don’t have shoe bags is to use showercaps you get free at hotels and wrap it around the soles of the shoes! It’s a cheap fix but it works.

I also loved your post when you wore your “love conquers all” shirt. I have seen some hate around your blog too but mostly lots of love. You have tons of fans (me being one!) keep doing what you’re doing because I LOVE pink peonies!! Xoxoxo

  6. This was a really helpful post Rach! I am a long time fan of yours and know that you’re a frequent traveler just by following your blog. Packing beach hats and bags is a toughie so thank you for sharing your methodology! Safe travels xo

  8. Would you mind sharing where the bed and nightstands are from? We’re Shopping for Furniture at our house. Thanks! Love this post. :)

    1. Lauren,

I got my night stands from Pottery Barn several years ago but I’m sure they have something very similar to these on their site. :)

      1. I love your bed. I have been looking for a white, tufted, nailhead trim headboard but they are all boxy and don’t have enough of a unique feel to them. Where did you get yours from?

  9. Too bad this post didn’t happen before my cruise I just got back from! Definitely would have helped with my packing. And where is your gorgeous bed spread from!?

  10. Thanks for the great packing tips! I am going to Kauai in June, so I will definitely be packing a beach hat and using the tips that you have provided! :)

  11. I was just considering an adorable Tumi berry pink large packing case the other day! I’m curious – does this suitcase really allow you to roll the suitcase at a diagonal like you’re doing in the second picture? I don’t think I”ve ever seen a four wheeled suitcase where that was possible, but if this suitcase does let you roll at a diagonal that’s a huge plus! I prefer rolling upright but my husband prefers rolling at a diagonal, so this would be the best of both worlds!

  12. Hi!
I absolutely love this post and all of the organizing tools you used. Would it be possible to add the links to the makeup and jewelry organizer as well as the garment bag?

    Thanks!
    Sonya

  13. I love love love this! First off, your bedroom is gorgeous. Second, I love that bright colored suitcase. Third, you have great packing tips! Especially when you are going to more than one place!

  14. Thanks for all the great tips! I travel a ton for work so this is definitely helpful. I have a small black tumi suitcase now but i LOVE this print. I’m going to have to pick up a couple pieces to use.

I’m in the process of redecorating my bedroom and love that duvet cover. Where did you find it??

    Thanks Rach!

  15. Great tips!! Love the fun printed luggage :)
Please share where you got your cute printed cosmetic cases from-love the prints on those too!!

  16. Love the suitcase! I need the jewelry roll in my life :-) I usually pack my shoes and handbags in a carry-on suitcase and then check everything else in a larger suitcase. I’m so scared the airline will lose my luggage! I have never traveled with a hat before. That is a great tip! Thanks!!

  17. I travel for business almost weekly so I’ve become a packing master! One thing I always suggest for carry-ons is to pack your shoes first then roll all your loose items and fit them into the nooks. It helps save a ton of space for all the other items you can pack on top.

Luckily, this suitcase seems to be extra large so you didn’t have to compromise on space for all your goodies!

  21. Hi Rachel, I am loving this post. Perfect timing for vacation season. Where did you buy your jewelry bag/organizer from? It’s the perfect size.

    Thanks,

    Veronica

  22. Love the luggage! Great packing ideas, too! What size is your suitcase–is it the extended travel, large or medium one? I’m trying to get a perspective on the different sizes because I think I have to have one! Also, are there any special offers /promotional codes with Tumi for mentioning your site?

  23. Such a cute suitcase and I liked that you broke down the order you pack things in…definitely helpful! My grandma is a world traveler (5 continents down…idk what she’s waiting for! haha) and taught me a useful tip: pack in a color scheme. For me, that usually translates to blue and white with pops of pink for summer and denim and neutrals in winter. That way everything matches and you can always pick up some colorful accessories when you get there!

  24. I am graduating soon and building a career in consulting! Travel tips like yours are going to be super important as I begin my career. PLUS who doesn’t love Tumi? Top of my list for my next big purchase.

  25. Love this! Can you share where you got your jewelry bag case? and makeup bag? THey are amazing and I’ve been shopping around for a new one for months!

    Thanks :)

  26. What an adorable suitcase! I love the headboard, too. Can you tell me which fabric/stud colors you chose? And what about the side tables…..? Thanks for all the fabulous ideas!

  27. Hello,

I am looking into purchasing this suitcase and am wondering the dimensions of yours. Also, how did you decide on the size?

    Thanks!

  28. Oh my god, your travel case is the best! It looks so fresh and girly, it’s just so beautiful, where did you get it from? Thanks for the packing tips also!

  29. Please, please, please can you tell me where your BEAUTIFUL headboard is from? Also – just wanted to compliment you on your site and insta posts! You do a great job! I am pregnant with TWINS and guess I am nesting & truthfully NEED that headboard! HA! Thanks!

  30. Appreciating the dedication you put into your site and detailed information you present. It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same old rehashed information. Fantastic read! I’ve saved your site and I’m adding your RSS feeds to my Google account.
