One of our favorite Christmas traditions is baking homemade Christmas sugar cookies and decorating them!!! I baked them a couple weeks ago when we had our first big snowstorm of the season, and once they were all gone (Dash somehow snatched the last few cookies off the counter while we were sleeping) I figured we needed more because they are my favorite (and now Isla's too).
Isla loves to help me in the kitchen whenever I cook. You may have seen that she has her own little kitchen set up in our kitchen, and I really think she's catching onto the idea of "cooking while I'm cooking" and "helping me get ready for dinner." She is a natural helper and the sweetest big sister to Jackson, and she ALWAYS has to be doing something! This busy chick had the best time frosting cookies (okay, more like licking the frosting off and making a complete mess!! haha).
I thought it would be fun to document our morning of Christmas cookies because these days spent at home with my babies are the best days and I always want to remember them. I use my Canon Rebel T6i to capture cute, daily moments. Especially when I want to capture pictures to frame in my home. Sometimes iPhone photos just don't cut it. I use the EF 50mm f/1.8 lens on my Rebel, using a lens with a shallow depth of field is the secret to getting images that look like a professional took them. Your subject will be in focus and everything else will be blurred. At first glance, the camera and lens seem like a big expense (I remember thinking that when I bought my first camera and lens), but it's such a good investment and it's such a good price for the quality of product you are going to get!
For the frosting I use the cream cheese frosting recipe by Barefoot Contessa here.
